I have been looking at my Google analytic data and frankly, I don’t think I care. There is something fundamentally inauthentic about creating a blog about your own life, and then tailoring the content to what performs the best. I want to create content that feels genuine to me and that I enjoy creating. If it doesn’t appeal to certain people, or get a certain amount of engagement, I don’t want to be influenced by that. I think this is a radical concept in a world where we are searching for more likes, better performance and overall, to be liked by others. I just don’t know if I want to live in a world where I have to think about how people perceive me and what about me appeals to them, because I believe on some level that will influence my behaviour to the extent of no longer being genuine. I took this post in a very personal direction, so I’ll clarify that I believe engagement metrics are incredibly relevant when promoting a business or a product. I just don’t want to treat myself like a product, I am not a commodity and neither is my creative content.
