White wine is the less forgiving cousin of Red- at least that’s what I like to believe. Some people love it, but whites and I have been on shaky terms for some time now. Despite this, I have found my fair share of delicious wines that I am thrilled to talk about. Wine has been a passion of mine over the last few years as I travelled and experienced renowned wineries from across the world, helping me learn about the different variants, profiles and regions of each kind. Here is a short list of some of my favourites to enjoy with friends.
Sauvignon Blanc: Crisp, zesty, and aromatic. Sauvignon Blanc is a refreshing white wine that bursts with vibrant acidity and citrusy notes. Expect flavors of grapefruit, lime, passionfruit, and a touch of freshly cut grass. It’s a perfect choice for warm weather, seafood dishes, or just sipping on a patio. Some of the best Sauvignon Blanc comes from New Zealand, California, and France.
Frankies Picks: Santa Margherita, Selaks
Chablis: Elegant, crisp, and mineral-forward, this takes the award for being my favourite white wine. hablis is a type of Chardonnay from France’s Burgundy region, known for its acidity and fresh, clean finish. With tasting notes of green apple, lemon, and wet stone, it’s a sophisticated choice for seafood, light pastas, and soft cheeses. Look for bottles from France’s Chablis region to experience its signature character.
Frankies Picks: Domaine La Roche
Rosé: Light, dry, and honestly, just fun to say. Rosé is the quintessential warm-weather wine, offering flavors of strawberry, watermelon, citrus, and a touch of floral. Whether you’re lounging by the pool or enjoying a picnic, Rosé is always a great choice. France, Okanagan Valley, and California are standout regions to shop for Rosé.
Frankies Picks: Dirty Laundry (Hush), Gray Monk
Chardonnay: Rich, buttery, and versatile. Chardonnay is a crowd-pleaser, with flavors that range from crisp apple and citrus to creamy vanilla and toasted oak, depending on where it’s grown. Whether you prefer a fresh and unoaked style or a bold and buttery glass, Chardonnay has something for everyone. Some of the best regions to explore include California, Burgundy, and Australia.
Frankies Picks: Bread & Butter
Prosecco: Light, bubbly, and refreshing. Prosecco is the perfect go-to for celebrations or simply adding a touch of bubble to the day. With crisp notes of green apple, pear, honeydew, and a hint of floral, this sparkling wine is effortlessly enjoyable. It’s best served chilled and pairs wonderfully with light appetizers, seafood, or just good company. Fun fact: Prosecco is unique in that it pairs well with just about anything! Look for bottles from Italy’s Veneto region for authentic flavors that never disappoint.
Frankies Picks: La Marca, Ruffino
